Somebody collided with my 2020 G20 M Sport Portimao Blue. I only had it for 3 weeks. The runflat burst, alloys are scraped, and body work is dented with about 1.5cm of metal torn but still attached. See pics for reference.

I live on an island where it’s difficult/lengthy to get new parts. I am still waiting on their insurance to estimate and coordinate the repair but I want to make sure they do a good job to restore it like new as if never happened. If anyone could please advise:

Can a non-official body shop mend the damage and restore the paint to the original color? Or does the panel need replacing?

Does the alloy need replacement or can it be sanded/polished out?

Sorry to hear this happened so soon into ownership. The panel and door need to be replaced, but the wheel looks like it can be fixed if the only damage is the scraping on the rim.

Ouch! That hurts and especially on your new car. A lot of folks here will disagree, but I would choose Bondo to repair that rather than having the quarter panel cut off and re-welded. They can pull out most of the denting and there won’t be a lot of Bondo. But I would replace the whole door. Good luck!

Sorry to see OP, but I would get it fixed by a BMW Certified Shop.

That’s some major damage that I would not trust to just any old collision center

Bummer, thats a nasty one. Someone ran into it?......mmmm..... ok. Some might think the nature of the damage looks like was hit by a fast moving wall/rock with the type of scrapes, torn metal, tyre gouged etc.

Anyway the alloy can easily be refurbed. The door should be replaced as its nearly impossible to repair a door skin so that any anyone can't see it and they don't reskin them any more.

The quarter panel is a very expensive repair to do properly and ideally should be replaced. The door jamb is twisted, panel deformed and torn and will be very hard to get perfect and will ruin the cars resale value if bondo etc used. If its an insurance job its a no brainer.... get it replaced.

I'd only let an approved BMW repair shop do it but therein lies the problem. The parts and labour costs may be so high that the insurance company decide its better to write the car off.

i would only let BMW repair it. the damage looks serious and taking it to a normal collision center could mean that they do a poor job compared to BMW

It was in motion when it happened. I was on the main road, and the guy turned onto the main road without looking both ways
