Believe it. Laser is next, so lower, projector LED non-adaptive headlights and Higher-end, prettier, higher output adaptive LED as the upgrade is the new norm.

Bring back the damn "automatic" windscreen and turn-signal handles.. The new one is horrible and feels like cheap plastic..

Since I decided to buy out my F30 lease, I need something else to obsess about now.

Where's the latest news on this thing?!? My M340i wish list:
- No weight increase
- Similar wheelbase
- 6MT
- Factory LSD
- HUD with tach
- Adaptive suspension
- Individually orderable options (don't make me buy Exec Pkg)

Thx very much.

Update: October 17, 2017

This G20 3 Series prototype has been spied wearing the same production LED headlights, tail lights and camouflage as the last sighting, but it provides us the most revealing look at the interior yet. Seen for the first time is the full digital instrument panel and the new style shifter fashioned after the new F90 M5 shifter. The center air vents have been lowered, new air vents sit atop the dash, iDrive control knob moved forward, and new angular door handle pulls.

The lowering of the center air vents also lowers the position of the iDrive screen (perhaps for a more integrated look) as well as allowing for air vents to be added to the top of the dashboard. And if that's the edge of the iDrive screen we see extending all the way to the gauge display hood, then expect a much larger screen than the current version.

According to our future models crystal ball, the 2019 3 Series (G20) will come to US as 330i, 330e and M340i (in choice of sDrive or xDrive for all models). The B48TU engine that will power the 330i will receive a small power increase to 255hp.

The G20 will come with a host of cool toys. The instrument panel seen in these photos is the same one from the upcoming 8 Series, a special differential will be included with the M Sport Package, ambient light, laser lights (even for US cars), significantly improved autonomous driving capabilities, remote engine start, and much more.

Thanks!

- More integrated screen, check
- Remote start, check!
- Special diff, check!!

Hopefully the additional autonomous stuff is all optional.

Why the ?gear indicator? isnt on the gear knob itself like it is now, but on the center console instead? Seems like a step back imo. Other than that it?s shaping out pretty nicely the interior.

I don?t understand very well the headlights. Where are the corona rings and why the turn signals moved to the side again instead of being integrated on top of the unit? I really hope this is the base headlights, like the halogens are on this gen.

This is looking rather interesting tbh.

I know there?s a release window of late next year but any idea on when they will show off the car? Detroit? New York? Brussels? That?s the only big ones until Q2 next year.

Yes yes yes!!!

Finally!! A departure from the floating iDrive screen design! This is what I have been waiting for!

It also looks like there is still separation between the iDrive screen and the instrument cluster screen, which I is great! Unlike how in the current Mercedes E-Class where it is all just one big long horizontal screen.

The buttons themselves below the vents look like a great design too. Seems like BMW is finally doing a different design for the interior of BMWs. This is one reason why I don't like the G30 5-Series, it just simply continued upon what the F30 started, then the G11 got it, and then they simply transferred that basic interior layout to the G30. Now with the G20 we are finally getting something different.

I am happy to see the iDrive screen placed in a less floating/standup design. The new Audi A8 also follows this new trend of placing the main screen below the dash instead of on top of it and the new A8 interior looks F-ing awesome. This is also another reason why I love my F10, no floating iDrive screen!

I really really can't wait for the M340i! I also can't wait until they confirm that America is getting an M340i with a 6 Speed Manual Option. Everything looks promising so far. I wonder if it is too much to hope for that they redesign the front bumper so that the headlights no longer touch the kidney grills too, or maybe that's asking for too much? Lol!

which leaves the door open for an m2gc. especially since the m2cs will have the s55. i can only assume the next m2 will have the s58 the x3m is getting.

maybe its just me but it doesn't seem bigger than the current 3 series which is already quite large. I wouldn't assume its growing unless thats already been confirmed someplace.

+1

Doesn't look larger to me either. Take a look at this picture to see how the size of the driver compares to the size of the car.

It's just you. Can you name one instance where the upcoming BMW model in a series isn't larger than the model it replaces?

Here is the translation:

M2 = modern M3/M4
M3 = modern M5
M5 = modern M7

So next time you see M3, think of it as an M5. Same car different badge.

My guess is the headlights will no longer touch the kidney grills. I saw a report somewhere that BMW did a survey and realize that customers don't like that design. My hope though, comes from the new X3, which, unlike its predecessor, doesn't have the headlight touching the grill. I'm hoping that is a sign that they are moving on from that design, even though we cant be sure, as the X7 concept does have the headlight touching the grill. I think it looks ugly, especially in the larger vehicles

Why are there two versions of the instrument cluster and interior? Did they scrap the design that was spied last year? Or are they still deciding which one to go with for production?
