Basically, it's going to look like the 7 series.

This is my surprised face.

Hi All. Thanks for your comments! This is an early render with lots of speculation and most of the detailing is based upon the G30 5 Series used to morph into the G20 year mule. However, the body proportions are what the real car is going to be (for example the greenhouse). I will refine the render from what I can deduct from the spy shots, especially the shape of the headlights, character lines and air curtain which can be guessed in spite of the camouflage. I believe the shape of the M Sport bumore won't be too different from the G30... Anyway, I don't think this render is too far from the real thing but I hope insiders such as SCOTT26 can provide more info if they are prepared to share more....

Cheers!

The render closely follows the kidney shape of the mule, which I believe I'd finalised, these kidney may be a little more angular, but that's what they are going to look like...

The hood is morphed from the G30 5 Series. I have changed the shape and direction of the character lines but I need to find more details with a closer look at the prototype. However the overall shape of the good is there...

There won't be a hockey stick a la 7 series, but something similar to the air cutain of the 5 series. I believe it will look sportier though so I will refine my guess in the next render...

Well, I used the G20 mule as the base and morphed the 5 series into it so it's the exact proportion of the mule (and future 3 series) with detailing from the 5 series... Note that I have done in the past the same thing by using the G30 test mule and morphed the 7 series into it. And the final result was pretty spot on: http://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1251326! That shows current BMW designs are very much derivative, but they sell!

I think you're right. It'll be interesting to see this 3er and how close your rendering is. BMW always get it bang on beautiful when it comes to looks on the 3 series and they can't afford not to. Even Bangle couldn't resist making the e90 gorgeous.

I think the current 3er (with its LED spectacles option) is a very handsome car indeed, and some of the magazines have said it's the best in class even in terms of looks alone.

No easy task designing a 3 - no pressure

Looking at the spy pics I don't think it will look like that. For starters the headlights need to be angled much more ala the classic batmobile csl

Unless you can show us a better one you shouldn't tell him he has no skills. Have just a bit of respect. Have your opinion but no need to get personal.

That's not the point. I'm not here to reinvent the 3 series. I'm here to try providing the most accurate future 3 series based on spy pictures and the latest models already released by BMW. Since their design are evolutionary, the current 5 series is the best model to base the rendering from... And as I posted before. this is just the beginning of the render work...

I disagree. the headlight shape is somewhat imagined but based on what I could see from the spy pictures and current headlight designs from BMW...

Unfortunately most car designs nowadays have similar styling cues... What differentiate them are stance and overall proportions. As I was saying before, I'm not here to reinvent the G20. My goal is to provide a realistic render of that car...

The 3 series was arguably the most important car for BMW. I use "was" because I now suspect that the X series SUV's are now more important... I think the future X3 is their most important design.

You're an idiot. If you want to blame BMW for making the G20 look like the G30, great, but if it wasn't blatantly obvious to you, Paul-Bracq-BMW took the mule and simply filled in the colors to replace the camouflage. He's not the one inventing this design. There are enough detail under the camouflage and knowledge of BMW's design language to carve out the rest.

This render will be at least 90% accurate to the final design - any potential discrepancy coming mainly from the details of the headlight.
