Another highres view of the future 3er by Autobild... I think it's pretty close to the real thing...
IMO it already looks dated, a little bit like the 5er when it was launched...

There is an upper line than runs from the rear glasshouse down the front of the car. The real piece of genius in the metalwork is subtle but effective and something new for BMW. The metal curves inwards similar at the rear wheel arch in a way to the Vision Future Luxury Concept Car, this reduces the motive to add an extra line on the surface. Allowing the car to be cleaner and more more minimalist. It will not overly dramatic as the concept but adds a less is more approach to its definition. The front of the car is Aerodynamically sculptured so the air flow directs over the front and through the front slimmer curtains. This impression does not have the Air Breather on the front wing. The M-Sport and M Performance models use air curtains in the rear bumper, purely for aesthetic value but will be functional for the M models.

The question is why this styling gimmick? BMW needs to return to simpler design and not more than 1 or 2 character lines, otherwise the car is going to age very quickly...

Overall, the new render shape is nice, very BMW.
The front looks BMW as well with nicely sized signature "kidney" grill. The headlights render has an odd, and a "what's the point" kink towards the middle of the assembly, and frankly it only adds question to the design, and not in a good way. The styling pieces I do not like in the render as the "what the FK are those" chrome trimmed surrounds on the front turn signals/fog lights. The same design element is repeated at the rear. They look more like a Pontiac or Japanese add-on design feature that someone thought would make the front and rear look better if there is just MORE there. Those elements are out of place, unnecessary, distracting to the overall nice front end, and ugly imo. The other odd design feature are the 3 piece rear window trim. Not a good look. It cuts the flowing line of the upper trim arch as it breaks the flow by adding the rear element, which creates a distinct line of separation that very much draws attention to itself, again, not a good way. I see it and think, "What's the point of that? It looks broken not flowing." |

I always thought the touchscreen display was a bit high and hard to use when driving. I like the placement of it lower and easier to reach. I'm also a sucker for analog dial cluster so it's a win-win for me!

Hope everyone is pleased to see two distinct kidney grilles so that we avoid the mutiny over the iX3.
I swear....

I guess this confirms the news that no manual will be offered on the next M3, unless they redesign the center console. Disappointing but responsive to the market.
