Nice

I've always liked the model just below the true M model because the Ms are just beyond a good everyday car. These new 340s with 335 hp is just right.

The tips scream Lexus/Hyundai- okay for the non-sport models (people who drive it for the badge) but not the sport/M-sport!

Jason-

Maybe the M340i is a PHEV?

I heard an eMotor in the video you posted. Look at it pull.

Go ahead, listen to it. I might be wrong but I somehow I would not doubt it either.

Heard something strange there too. Not sure what it is.

But I think customers deserve a little more than 'a small' power bump. 335i/340i has been around since 2006 or so and the power increased by only 30hp..

I'm pretty sure Toyota does it b/c it saves them money.

Here's some tips from a recent Acura update...hopefully the M340i exhaust will look more like this.

Hoping Car Magazine got it somewhere right suggesting M350i with 400+ BHP but that would rely on a more powerful M3/4 obviously

Oh yes, hopefully thats true. XE already runs 380hp now and we're talking about a car that shall be competitive in the market 8-10 years from now.

It's getting to the point where A class Mercs, Audi RS3 and Focus are creeping up on M3 power so I would expect to see a substantial increase in power.

Just wonder whether the M...50 moniker will be used as this seems reserved for the Quad Turbo 6 diesel and the V8 Petrol

You have a good point IF you were aware that the horsepower stated in press releases and on BMWs website are usually conservative. The current 340i runs high 11s in the qtr mile with just a tune and catless downpipe.

The b58 engine has about 305 WHEEL horsepower in xdrive config considering a 20% drivetrain loss to be conservative. That puts it at about 364-377 crank horsepower. Every car runs different but averages still higher then your claimed 30hp bump

I hope you are more informed now.

Next BMW 3-Series Will Gain M Performance Variants, M3 Gets Electrification

http://www.carscoops.com/2017/06/nex...ll-gain-m.html

Quote:
Following the launch of the redesigned 5- and 7-Series, BMW is hard at working putting the finishing touches on the new 3-Series.

Spy photographers have snapped prototypes on numerous occasions, but little is known about the upcoming sedan. Until now, that is, as AMS magazine is reporting the car will be about 6cm (2.3 inches) longer than its predecessor with about 2cm (0.7 inches) of that being due to the longer wheelbase.

The interior is expected to get a makeover and the number of buttons in the cabin is slated to be reduced. The car will also be equipped with the latest iDrive infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster on higher end variants.

BMW has been making a conscious effort to make its vehicles lighter and the 3-Series isn't an exception. The model will ride on the CLAR platform and the report suggests the car will weigh around 40 kg (88 lbs) less than its predecessor.

A variety of different engines will be able with rumors suggesting an assortment of three-, four-, and six-cylinder options. The gasoline units are expected to receive a minor performance boost as well as reductions in fuel consumption and emissions. The company could also offer a couple of plug-in hybrid variants with an electric range of up to 50 km (31 miles).

Buyers looking for something more powerful will reportedly be rewarded with a 340i M Performance, which is designed to battle the Mercedes C43 AMG. There could also be a 340d M Performance with all-wheel drive and a diesel engine developing around 320 PS (315 hp / 235 kW).

The next-generation BMW M3 is still way into the future, but early reports suggest it will have an electric motor mounted between the engine and the transmission. The car is also slated to have a 48-volt electrical system, additional lightweight components and an output of around 460 PS (453 hp / 338 kW).

Update: July 11, 2017

Latest spy pics from: http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...py-photos-news

This G20 3 Series was spotted up close and persona in the desert, wearing way too much clothing for its environment. As seen in the photos, camouflage panels and fake front/rear bumpers are still affixed to the car, hiding its final design underneath. There is also some looks at the interior, revealing the new iDrive knob and some peeks at the center console.

BMW 3 Series (G20)

Liking the overall shape. Was hoping the kidney grills are not as big as other new models...but it appears they will be.

It has eDrive on it.

Not only can you hear it, but the plugin door is as clear as day.

I'd say we are going to have a 400 hp car from the new M340i or potentially the M350i.

Not sure if anybody caught it from the photos, but bye-bye emergency brake lever. Looks like the car comes with an e-parking brake.
