IMO, it’ll look fine, especially in m-sport clothing. What I really want is new tech, lcd gauges and graphics, and a better placed heat steering wheel button (check!). And the M3 better come out better than the current CS.

Dude, you can make out enough lines to see the shape. It's not that hard. If I'm wrong then I'll admit it but I'm pretty sure it's gonna have a lot of design cues from the new 5 series.

I love the look of the E46 and F80 series but the E90 just didn't look that great. I think the G20 is gonna miss the mark for me.

I personally think the G20 will be great but highly disagree with your opinion because consistent core values and a loyal customer base are very important to any business in the long run. How many existing customers can they afford to 'not miss' before it's too late? New products are designed with an objective to balance intrinsic qualities of the brand to retain loyal customers while at the same time bringing about enough changes to attract new customers. Thank God you're not running BMW.

No way I own a mint individual 2013 e92 m3 and I've had many chances to upgrade to an f30 or f80 m car and they are all shit tbh and remind me and drive exactly like my girlfriends Lexus IS300. By looking at this design I can say for certain I will be switching brands away from Bmw for my next car which is sad because since 2003 I've always had a 3 series in some form or other.. a shame really
Comparing to a Lexus IS a bit of a stretch, c'mon man. But I certainly do get your point. My 1st "M" was an e46, so yeah I get it.

Bmw has successfully brought more people to the brand every year. Forget enthusiast talk, BMW is appealing to more people than ever every year. It's natural to have some buyers look elsewhere but overall if someone has claimed to have always owned a 3 series the customer lifetime value seems to be very high. I'd say they succeeded

Expecting to appeal to everyone in the market is impossible. Every brand deals with this. Pretty elementary business knowledge

And may I ask which brand you will be switching to? Which brand now offer a car like the E92 M3? Which brand is now offering a car with manual transmission, a naturally aspirated V8 and hydraulic steering for around the same price as M3?
There is nothing on the market that compares to the e9x m3 no question there. Obviously I'm keeping the car for this exact reason. This hurts me to say but I'm more than likely going to end up in the new Audi S4.. not comparable to the e92 but I just can't get myself to give Bmw more money for a product that does not excite me at all, time for a change

Look, I don't love my F80, but this comment is a bit over the top.

The IS300 had, what, 200 BHP and FWD? I drove one twice, and that was enough for me.

Perhaps the F30 can be compared to your girlfriend's car...but not the F80...
Agreed the Lexus comment was based off the f30 and in most trims comes with power levels on par.. just my opinion man I never got the "special" feeling from any Bmw in the last 5 years and still don't with this one

BTW neither of the two newly photographed cars is an M340i. Look at the exhaust pipes.

I totally get that and as a consumer not a brand owner, their formula for new customer acquisition vs balancing and intriguing current owners to upgrade to this car doesn't apply to me. I'm probably in the 5% of current Bmw owners that feel this way but I do not care lol

it's a lot more than 5% ... but that figure is apparently probably what BMW assumes they will lose..

Looks the same as the current gen. Maybe BMW is taking a page out of Apple's innovation playbook.

Your living 20 years ago. That’s never going to come back when they keep selling more cars YoY globally. I’d like a car like that too but it’s now called, Porsche.

It pains me to see the numerous M editions and comp packages (3 months after M5 debuts). They are clearly following in this regard. I think they could pave their own road but no, they are following the German cattle herd for volume and $. I’d say brand dilution, especially M, but they just keep selling. Idk. I won’t pony for a Porsche, would love to say FU but then I drive a Lexus and Toyota and know I’d want to drive it off a cliff in two weeks. I’d consider a Tesla, but can’t get over that sticker shock either... nothing hits all the buttons for me right now.

You read my mind, 911 is definitely my next auto. Pains me to say it, BMW...Innovator no more. All about being a cash cow, too bad.

Which Porsche 911 special edition will you buy? And if you think BMW is " all about being a cash cow.." WOW do YOU have a surprise coming..

" According to Bloomberg, the company made an average of $17,000 in profit on each of the 238,000 cars it sold last year.
BMW and Mercedes make around $5,000 per car. "

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...er-car-profit/

Porsche is the king of " all about being a CASH COW " in auto manufacturing with the exception of Ferrarri.

I am not the OP for this particular topic BUT I am in the exact same boat. I have an 18k miles 2013 BMW M3 Convertible and I have struggled to find a good replacement (for the record I have the DCT and I love that transmission). I have become EXTREMELY disenchanted with BMW for the many reasons that have been stated by others and, while I think almost everything about the M4 is better than my M3 (booked looking, better suspension, better exterior and interior, better tech, etc), the turbo lag and steering are both underwhelming and I have been searching for a good alternative. The logical alternative was a C63s but I truly hated the current 7 speed auto that is has for slow city driving (I suspect their upcoming 9 speed upgrade will be better but I am waiting for it) and I'm curious to see if their upcoming E53 coupe might be an option thanks to their electrically assisted turbo that will likely eliminate the lag compared to the M4.

Clearly some of us purists who are still living in the naturally aspirated and "old BMW" past are stuck there without any options. So the question is whether it's truly fair to point a finger at BMW specifically or turbo and tech in general (including electrically-assisted steering) as the challenge here. Either way when "progress" equates to a worse user experience in general then something is wrong. And that's what many of us are complaining about.

I bought my E93 M3 new in 2012 and I got it certified as a lease-turn-in and buyback that was accommodated by my dealer. My 6 year CPO is warranty is coming to an end in the Fall and I'm planning on simply buying a comprehensive bumper-to-bumper extended warranty at that time to continue to bridge the gap until I can find a good alternative. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that perhaps the next-gen M4 will do it for me but time will tell. Regardless, I am one of many very disappointed BMW owners who only owned BMWs for many, many years and are now very hesitantly searching for alternatives outside of the BMW brand. Very sad...
