Cooling mods for track day with tune
What are the most effective engine and transmission cooling mods for an m340ix with flash tune and downpipe?
I’ve seen CSF and mishimoto radiators, trans coolers, oil coolers, upgraded intercooler intake manifolds, etc If you were trying to ensure longevity of the trans and engine, what mods might you make? |

Stock cooling should be okay being that the cooling strategy revolves around keeping a 20 grade from shearing.
Just increase the viscosity to a 30 grade using a LL04 oil such as Shell Euro L 5w30, M1 ESP 5w30, etc.

The best thing would be to have your DME unlocked and have custom cooling parameters done by a well respected tuner. Otherwise, remove your OTS tune and run stock tune. You mentioned all valid upgrades that can be done. They’re not needed at first, I believe. It’s not until you are actually pushing times that you will need the benefit of cooling mods. For peace of mind, sure, do it all. Oil cooler, radiator, charge air manifold, etc. Also, on cool track days, IAT’s tend to stay within optimal range. It’s only on hot days that I notice fluctuations.

I recommend CSF for cooling mods.

Thanks guys.
@mike@xph.com Do you recommend a certain priority or rank of CSF Mods for Bolt-on modded cars? For instance radiator > trans cooler > accessory heat exchanger? What about the larger cooling fan from the OEM “performance & cooling package” for those cars without that option from the factory? |

Get some data logs at your next track day to see what is spiking the most. However, with most of us, oil temp seems to stay the highest throughout push laps, 220-240. So personally, I would prioritize oil cooler.

Ok awesome, thank you.
Does anyone know the part number for the larger cooling fan that is spec’d on the OEM “Cooling and performance” package from the factory? Last edited by GA/\/\/\/\A_CT; 05-07-2024 at 05:18 AM.. |

What are your current mods? If relatively stock you should be fine but if you are heavily modified I would look into some cooling mods such as a heat exchanger to help with iats.
