Update: March 27, 2017

The G20 3 Series is currently undergoing winter testing in Scandinavia and our spies have had a chance to get up close and personal with it. Here's a long and very close-up look at the G20 prototypes.

Our new prediction has the updated B48 TU 4 cylinder turbo engine being introduced with the G20 3 Series when it's revealed in 2018.

Well the G30 seems to be improved but not by much. It's not utter crap like the F10 I guess, but it's still no "driver's car." It's a luxury cruiser first, with a sporty side when you want it to be. I suppose that's OK cause every car in that segment is a luxury cruiser first.

Even if the G20 is improved, I highly doubt it will recapture the magic of the E90 and every 3-series before it. I hope I'm wrong though.

This car looks to be the size of the e60. looking forward to the 2er gran coupe if bmw keeps making the 3er bigger and bigger.

i hope they reserve that for the 5er and up only. but it seems to be the industry trend to separate the exhaust from the finishers. its almost as if there is a safety regulation we dont know about.

I think it's just cheaper to not have to align the exhaust to the bodywork. But Benz and their awful exhaust designs have convinced people it's "fancy."

I'm wasting pixels here, but any chance the non M cars with, oh, say 300+ lb/ft might get a f'ing mechanical LSD again?

I guess you're "dun dah dah" cuz those look like cutouts for exhaust finishers. I don't blame you.

We all clowned Lexus for doing that to the ISF years ago. Now we're in the same boat. This is sad...

Really looking forward to the new 4 cyl engines coming with this car.

But my god, that car is huge. Looks about the size of an f80. I feel bmw will get themselves into the Lexus arrangement of the is and Es cars, with the 3 series as the Es and a yet to come 2 series sedan as the is. Well the latter is wishful thinking maybee.

And like others are saying about the exhaust finishers. Cmon bmw, have some self respect

More than 1 4cyl engine? I love my inline 6, but I would love to see a high performance 4cyl in a 2 series.

Ignoring outright speed and performance, I find the bmw 4 cylinder engines more fun then the 6 cylinder engines. And I mean compared to the modern turbo 6s. On a street car I favor fun over absolute speed or 0-60 times, so for that reason the 4s look interesting.

I have to say, quality issues aside (not a small issue), the n20 is a blast of an engine in its own little way. Pair that with a slick stick shift or dct and you might have something compelling.

I think it looks very similar to the E90 and less similar to the F30, at least on the outside. Looks to be more compact, with small overhangs front and rear. Maybe BMW figured it out in the end, after the 7-series and 5-series boats they may need to return to some proper driving machines.

Uh no. 95% of customers dont care about how it drives. For example people in China are driven around. So no BMW doesnt care about driving feel anymore, because its selling to a different customer type.

I believe the % of pple who does not care is less than 95; regardless, most of these 95% buy BMW because of the hype much of which was created by the 5% of those who love driving. There are plenty of cars pple can drive including in the entry level of lux cars where 3er is placed. Those who buy BMW 3ers, mostly choose it for the image and style it portrays. I m not saying all buyer do, but a big portion of them does.
And by the way, while BMW doesn't care, as you say, they apparently do a big deal, just look at their product placement efforts in movies for example. BMW is a cool guy car, BMW is a getaway car, etc etc.
Even this forum is supported by BMW - they want people who love driving. They need us to keep the image up. Without us, it is just a car with features. With us buying these cars, racing and crashing them, the image was created and is now kept alive. To win this crowd, BMW did build some good machines in the past, I think e30 was their golden ticket, but they are loosing the drivers market and when they do, they will loose a big portion of those 95% of mass buyers.

Looks promising. However, if the steering feels like the F30, I will continue to soldier on with my E90. I just dropped a whole bunch of money replacing turbos on a nine year old car because I could't deal with the F30s awful steering.

Edit: And the exhaust finishers are awful.

Interior still looks dirt cheap compared with the Mercedes C-Class.
