The 2013 Nissan GT-R will reportedly pack a host of suspension tweaks in addition to 40 more horsepower than the current model, but will all the changes add up to an appreciable different in performance?

Nissan’s Chief Vehicle Engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno, also known as the father of the GT-R, seems to think so. He revealed that the latest iteration of “Godzilla” averages 3.1 – 4.9 mph faster through every corner of the famous (or infamous) Nürburgring Nordschleife, while it can also reach 183.9 mph on the final straightaway.

Mizuno estimated that the improvements are enough to cut “at least” 7-8 seconds off the 7:24 lap time of the current GT-R, meaning the car could come close to the unofficial record of 7:12 held by the Dodge Viper ACR.

Look for the 2013 GT-R to make its world debut next week with a newly available Track Pack that will bring a Spec-V style interior, racing seats, upgraded brakes and a sport exhaust system. A Club Track Edition may debut shortly thereafter with a roll-cage, Bilstein racing shocks and meatier tires.
