I've had many 5 series. The E39 was the last 5er that didn't 'feel' heavy. Weight really IS the enemy and where that weigh is carried in the car matters too. If you have ever driven a hard top convertible..... top up and top down are different worlds.
Thats why the last M3 axed the sunroof and fitted a carbon fiber roof. That makes a huge difference. The carbon fiber drive shaft not so much.
