I agree... these days, there's practically no difference in quality just because one is assembled in Germany vs. another one from Mexico or South Africa.
Having said that... the majority of people who buy BMWs, Mercedes and even Lexus are not just buying a car. It the name and more often than not, people do care about where a BMW or Mercedes is assembled. Ask any woman if she's be willing to buy a $6000 to $30000 fora LV bag if it's manufactured in India, Mexico, China or another similar country.
Or ask a guy who is a watch freak if he's willing to pony up $50,000 for a Rolex made in Thailand.(even if it's 100% identical in quality)
