I had the same issue until I charged the battery using this charger:

It is quite sophisticated and has a dedicated mode for AGM batteries. |
A friend happened to have a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger. This is a modern charger with support for AGM type of batteries.
After 4 hours of changing the batterie was full and the start installation appeared on the iDrive system.
Probably due to COVID 19 I drive 10% of my normal distance, and mostly short distances to the supermarket.
This is not good for maintaining a proper battery level.
