Absolutely get the LCI change in 2016 (also the first year IIHS started testing headlights) but there is more to this:
Look at the tests, even the Adaptive LEDs in the optional "lighting package" for 2016 models only scored a "marginal" rating. As of 2017, those same headlights scored a good. Clearly something changed with the actual design/implementation of the Adaptive LEDS in the lighting package between 2016 and 2017, otherwise they would have scored the same.
