I had a '16 M3 base then got the CS, which is pretty much the final big hoorah for the F80 with all the bells and whistles (and minus some features for "performance"). In other words, if you're not attached to it, no problem, you can always upgrade later. The base, to the comp, to the CS's were all significant and worthwhile upgrades if you want to keep swapping cars every few years.
Makes sense.

As long as I like what the G80 looks like in person, and it drives & performs as expected, I think I'll go for an early completion model. I'm not really worried about always having the latest & greatest tech & features so I won't be itching to upgrade 2 years later if BMW improve their iDrive or something like that.
We bought my wife's 2019 X5 in late 2018 and as long as the G80 has all of its software, lights, and features I'm not concerned about missing out on LCIs or mid gen refreshes.

Upgraded lights, CarPlay, new iDrive (which is fabulous) plus all the F80 normal features will be a great first year release of a new gen.
