Based on my experience with the G20 330i xDrive, I think the G80 will be impressive

I got the above 2019 G20 330i xDrive M-Sport as a loaner. I have track experience with the F80.

I thought the online reviews were bullshit, but I took it down some winding roads, and it handles much better than an F30. If they strip down the G80 M3 and don't screw up, you're gonna need an F80 with bootmod3 stage 2 to keep up as a novice driver. The AWD + electronics are that good.

If you are leasing, I think the AWD/ZF8 G80 will be a good deal. The ZF8 is okay, but I'm used to a 6MT so maybe it's actually just about right (haha). If they have an aggressive ZF8 mode (haven’t tried the new ZF8 in the M5 yet), I could see the G80 being satisfying.

I hope they also offer RWD/6MT, but I suspect the G87 M2 will cover that market. If they take the same tech and put it into an M2 Competition RWD/6MT, I think the M4 crowd will be satisfied. The G20 car does feel like a mini G30, and I don't think a manual fits with the characteristics of the car, unless they pull a miracle. The four-door 6MT market may need that miracle.

So, if they don't screw up, the G80 should be a worthy successor to the F80 where track numbers are concerned. As far as capturing the same spirit, you may be looking further out to the G87 M2.
