Has anyone tried installing one of the 3rd party ambient light kits (AliExpress has multiple, but likely all the same exact thing from different sellers)? If so, did it work well?

All of the sellers claim it works with the MMI, but I have my doubts. They just respond that it does work, even when I ask them how they program it.
