In Florence, last week, I noticed two guys with heavy duty Nikon rigs, taking pictures every which way, including pulling out their mobile phones to take pix of the same subjects. I do that too, but i just use those to sent to friends and family who might be interested via text message.
I was surprised at how helpful the iPhone was when shooting antelope canyon. For finding interesting stuff to shoot. The dynamic range (lack of) of the iPhone really highlighted some dramatic compositions where my eyes had so much more dynamic range, it looked somewhat mundane.
Sadly, i only used it on the way out, but that helped me capture my favorite image from that canyon.
