Do you have a 4K TV with HDR? Then get the X, if you only have a 1080P TV and don't plan to get a 4K within 2 years, get the S.
I'm not too sure on deals, that is a revolving door I haven't followed too closely, but I'll investigate as they recently announced the One X may get Dolby Vision support which my LG OLED has and that would sway me to get it just to have it for a 4K Bluray Player.

There is speculation that there may be a sale on Amazon for Prime Day as well. (Last year they offered $50 off of bundles)
