That is incorrect. The name of the series and classes has changed a bit over the years, but more or less from 2013-2015 BMW made the Z4 GTE (known as GTLM in Imsa) and the Z4 GT3 (known as GTD in Imsa). The GTE car was run by Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) in GTLM and Turner Motorsports ran a Z4 GT3 in GTD. From 2016-2017 RLL ran the M6 GTE (GTLM) and Turner ran the M6 GT3 (GTD). For 2018 to present, RLL has run the M8 GTE (GTLM) while Turner continues to use the M6 GT3 (GTD).

So yes the M6 did run in GTLM (as did a Z4). We know for certain that the M4 GT3 will replace the M6 for 2021, still no confirmation that will translate to an M4 GTE (GTLM). As mentioned in my other post, that is entirely possible based on the past, but I also think it is possible that BMW uses its future mid-engined “halo” car in GTLM as it would align more with the competition.
