In 2014, I was close to buying a C7 with the Z51 package. But I drive 175 miles a day round trip to work, so I couldn't see driving the C7 much with the fuel cost as a back up car to my E90. I then decided to buy something used, which is rare for me since it's akin to wearing someone else's underwear.

Still wanted a 2-seat sports coupe. I first looked at the '08 Cayman, but it was too cramped for me. On my way back from the Porsche dealer, I remembered BMW released the E86 Z4 Coupe with the N52, same engine as in my E90. I figured since my home shop is already set up for BMWs, I decided to find a Z4 3.0si Coupe. I bought a low-mileage example in December 2014; it's never leaving the fleet.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
