The NHTSA was looking into touch screens for similar reasons but it appears any regulatory moves have been suspended. Touchscreens are a huge money saver (Tesla *cough*) for automakers. I don't see the US making a move on this unilaterally especially when the domestic darling Tesla is just turning a profit.
