Not everything is based on incentives. There's a certain brand value with which people want to represent themselves.
This does not seem like a once motorsport driven, carefully thought out vehicle that captured many enthusiasts' hearts but rather a financial exercise.
Another thing that bothers me is that they have yet to release ANY technical details regarding the engine or transmission or any other innovative technology used to enhance driving fun and performance. During the time of Friedman and Biermann, BMW M was actively communicating with enthusiast base whereas it is now take it or leave it approach.
Not the best day for BMW M.
