I don't like cars with extremely large grilles because I believe they destroy what otherwise could be a nice design. There is no reason for them to be so large, except that designers seem to think they will make their automobiles more appealing to the public.

They include every recent Audi and Lexus. Lexus callls them "spindle" grilles, but to me they look more like a squashed hour glass. Unfortunately, BMW has joined them with the X7.

Toyota also is among manufacturers featuring them and the supposedly classiest of their cars, the Avalon, now has the "honor" of having the largest and therefore most hideous grille of them all. If you see a car with a front end that looks like a whale with its mouth open, ready to eat everything in sight, it probably will be an Avalon.
