Imagine if that was the case. In reality, I highly doubt sales will be impacted, to a significant extent, by the exterior styling. I see so many posts here to the effect of:

The 3er has become a bloated boat, I'm getting an Alfa instead.
Hate the big shiny grill, I'm sticking with my F* or e*.
No manual, no sale.
I'm sick of the maintenance, I'm getting a Lexus.
I've owned bimmers since George Washington leased his first 3 series, it's time for a change.
My local dealer sucks, I'm going to try the Audi dealer across the street.
Hate, hate, hate the new tail lights, might as well buy a Camry.
Looks like my current f80 is my last bmw.
The f80 is a great, high performance car, but it lacks soul. It's just so machine-like. :
That's the final straw bmw, I'm getting a 911.
If there's no stick, I'd might as well just get a Tesla.
Yay tesla!
The model 3 kicks a$&.
Within 2 minutes of test driving the model 3, I knew what my choice would be.
The g70 kicked the g20's a$& in the latest MT comparison, and it's cheaper. Bye BMW!
Bmw has lost its way. GM and Hyundai are making the real driver's cars now.
That's it, I'm getting a Porsche! Hate to do it, but bmw gave me no choice with those new grills.
I'll stick with my e39 m5 with 476,000 miles on it. Nuttin a little duct tape can't fix.
Did we mention how incredibly awesome the Tesla model 3 is?
I've got two words for you bmw: Tesla Model-3.
Was diagnosed with a rare disease. Dr recommended getting a model-3 to cure it. See ya bmw.
I experienced time travel, I test drove a model 3.
The f80 exhaust sounds like cows farting. I'm trading it for a camaro for the v8 sounds.
Who wants a wide nostriled g80 with the c8 vette coming.
Bmw is playing with fire!
Oh hell no! Will not buy!
Too many changes from previous generation.
Not enough changes from previous generation.
How 'bout that model 3!

Yet, despite the lamentations of the bmw enthusiast community, new bmw models remain nearly as ubiquitous on the roads as accords, camrys, and CRVs.
