I still think the aftermarket is going to come through will G22/G23/G26 grill replacements that effectively cut the grill in half top to bottom, remove the texture from the lower portion of the grill, and allow it to blend in with the lower air inlet.
These will work best with black paint and black grill surrounds as seen here, but even for other colors it will help. And if you go further and come up with replacement grills/surrounds that change briefly to body color starting at the top of the license plate area and finishing at the bottom of it, it'll work on any color.
Of course a replacement front bumper with a shorter grill would be an even better solution, but I think that something simple like the above could work as a quick, easy to install fix for those who don't like the OEM look.
