This is exactly how I feel about modern Mercedes products (at least trims above the base cars). I never really cared for Mercedes because of the stereotypical comfortable but boring driving experience. They were always nice to look at and ride in as a passenger, but never stole my heart. But today, I honestly think the E class and 5 series have switched places, last time I drove an E450 I found it better to drive than the 540i equivalent, and I've found the E53 to drive better than the M550i equivalent.
Strange times we live in!
