The issue with the BMW design in question is not the unsightly grille, per se - it's the whole front end which doesn't work, period. A poor design overall, imo.
I prefer the previous F-Type. It looks far more like a sports car and has a sportier aesthetic than the new model. Which looks like a sedan for the purpose of being uniform with the rest of the brand.
You won't get this with THE 4.
More's the pity they haven't adopted Jag's approach.
If BMW had a sensibly sized grille/grilles which were proportionate, discrete and uniform across models, we probably wouldn't be in this disappointing design phase.
I've had five BMWs in a row but will be holding back from any new purchase until they've rediscovered their design prowess - which hopefully will only be one series away?
