You're thinking of the M Performance Brakes that happen to come in red as well. They have a larger caliper body but are still 4 piston, and have larger diameter rotors (and are cross drilled). The "red vs blue" choices are simple the standard M Sport brakes that come on all M340i's.
These are the upgraded brakes...
