IT also had the first gen terrible idrive that everyone hated, and the dual humps if you had idrive.

Yes it had hydraulic steering and probably felt more analog. But this definitely is progress. 75 more lb feet of torque with better mpg AND a much more comfortable back seat (I sat in many an e90 rear .... my mom had one in fact... and it was not exactly spacious, and i'm only 5'11 and it was not a car you wanted to say drive to sit in the backseat of on a roadtrip). The e90 honestly for me, was the first bad bmw with its runflats and relatively low powered engines compared to the at the time japanese competition offering more (g35/is350). When the e90 came out I don't think anyone was exactly celebrating it because it felt like a huge drop off from the e46 330i. I really think this could be the generation that BMW gets it again and I am already eying a 330i msport with the diff, or a m340i.

Maybe I'm not on the same page with others, but if I can get the same weight car with more space.. well i'm buying a sedan for practicality and space is nice. I don't consider it bloated if the new G20 only weighs 3400 or less pounds. Its weight efficient.
My original comment was a little tongue in cheek.

I just don't know why the car needs to continue to get bigger and bigger - obviously the tech, MPGs, and reduced pollution are good, but the driving dynamics have fallen off in recent years (at least in your run of the mill 3er).

I've had a few loaner F30s and they've been pretty pathetic...rather large and floaty cars if that makes sense...hopefully the new one is better.
