I think you're set up for failure, the 2 series is the best driving BMW because of how small and nimble it is, not to mention the 230i is also the lightest. Trying to go to anything bigger or more practical won't feel as good even with more power because of how small the 2 series is. The size and weight of the 2 is what helps it be as good as it is. I don't think RWD will add the special feeling you want, it might help the car feel less heavy, but anything compared to a 2 series won't feel as good in my opinion.
Honestly 2 is the new 3.
