The foot wave can be a hit or miss. Not just with BMW but with any car.
And I haven't had any issue with comfort access after getting the software updated.

I feel it's just practice. My "hit rate" has improved with constant use. Probably 90% I get it on the first go. Just need to get the foot travel perpendicular to the rear and centrally. The speed of the kick needs to be right. Not too fast or too slow. Good luck!
