I think we are all paying the price for the SUV market. A few years ago, BMW's SUVs looked like ridiculous sedan cars jacked up on stilts with an extra 6" of bodywork tacked on the bottom.

Now we have the opposite... BMW's recent sedan cars look like a heavy SUV that has been lowered without fixing up the proportions. (hence the huge grille and the fugly rear ends that seem to have multiple bumpers)

Be grateful since it could be so much worse... we could have M cars that look like this:
