Yep, that's certainly another possible solution. But, since it would sit on top of the existing parts it might look a bit unsightly from the side or other angles. My thought was that a product that incorporates replacement grill/trim would perhaps offer the best combination of easy DIY-installability and positive visual impact.
I'm sure the wizards who design all the popular aftermarket items like US reflector deletes and other cosmetic mods will come up with some great ideas.
