Most designers don't openly bash others on public forums. However, in a rare show of bewilderment, there has been at least one that has blatantly implied "what the hell was BMW thinking". Others have been more subtle. I don't have time to look up all the posts/articles. Most keep a tight lip and will only comment off the record. I know a few designers at 4 auto companies. They all are like "WTF" from a design
language standpoint. Individual design cues may be fine, it's the overall language that is discongruent.
Another way to look at design language is like wearing matching clothes. You may have an awesome shirt with great buttons and sleeves and collar. You may have awesome pants with a great zipper and tapered legs and cool pockets. But they don't match each other because they are completely different themes and shapes and styles. That's the new 4 series.
But to each his own. Everyone has different style and tastes. Sometimes people wear mismatching clothes and it works for them.
