Your definition of "AWD practicality" is geocentric. Those of us who live where it literally never snows don't have any need for AWD, unless it will help us get around a track faster.
My wife's F80 M3 CP is an undeniably fun
and practical car. My F82 M4 is slightly less practical and just as much fun.
I grew up in Michigan in a family with four kids and RWD station wagons served us just fine, long before there were AWD SUVs. Of course none of those vehicles were even remotely fun!
