Yes, you can and it's by far of my favorite features in the car now. I can ask it to play anything, such as "Hey BMW, play piano man by Billy Joel" or "play Hey Jude" and it'll play the Beatles track. If you give it an artist name only, it'll play the top titles. Very cool. But can be a tad bit slow responding.
