not using Nikon's (or canon's for that matter) wireless systems. You end up paying 2-3x more for the same results. You don't get all the fancy auto metering, but you'll learn more doing everything manually anyways. Pick up decent wireless triggers and remotes and you can use any flashes you want. I use alienbees triggers/remotes and they work great. You also don't have to worry about IR and line of sight with all your flashes.
