The two are not exclusive... Ceramic coat is not a replacement for PPF. A coating will not protect against rock chips and scratches. PPF will. Ceramic coat is basically like a ultra durable wax - it's there to keep the car looking shiny and easy to wash. The hardness they advertise is not going to protect the car from rocks hitting the paint at highway speed or even brushes at a automatic car wash.

The best protection is to get both. I have PPF on all the front facing surfaces and ceramic coat over everything after PPF install. Then renew the coating every year.
