Just recently I noticed that the exhaust sounds a smidge more 'throaty' just over 3000 RPM. Sounds nice. I've done circa 9,500 km on my 330i.

It's only subtle and with the windows down but I've got a pretty good ear and it is different. Found my self driving around listening to it.
Exhausts do often change note with age, usually in the first 5-10k kms a it starts to carbon up. The layer of carbon buildup can reduce resonance.

Though, in your case, it might be that the second flap is opening up (the 330i has two pipes but one is often closed by a valve). It will do this in Sport/Sports Plus under certain conditions.
