This is built on CLAR-WE, so it is not sitting on a pure electric architecture. It is an evolution of the CLAR platform that underpins the majority of BMW's current lineup.

Since it's a flagship, I think iX8 would be better, but The X8 moniker is apparently being reserved for an upcoming ICE product (that could conceivably spawn its own electric variant). The i6 name has come up as a possibility in media reports, and it is available since the 6 Series name is only being used by the 6GT right now, and that will not live past the end of the generation. However, it would obfuscate things a bit, because this is an SUV and should have an "X" in its name. Yet the iX6 name would normally be reserved for an electric version of the X6, which this vehicle clearly is not. So it's unclear right now where they'll go with the final name.
