So this is where it start's the get weird. An i440 therefor should be closer to a 440i - which doesn't exist. I believe they are still not sure on how to position the i4 in the market and how to market these cars. I agree, and im a little confused about their name strategy.

i4 M50, i440.. if this should have any logic, it should be i4 M50, i4 xDrive40/sDrive40 or something.

Why cant BMW just do it simple, and in classic BMW style?

440i (gasoline)
440d (diesel)
440e (electric - todays "i4 / i440")
440ie (gasoline+electric)
440de (diesel+electric)
440h (hydrogen)

Simple and clean..
