The V8's are nowhere as stout as the I6's, but there are really good ones out there. If the M60 has survived that long, then it's good. S62 is not horrible all things considered and is a good engine.

I personally have an S65 and love it to death. As I said in another thread, the engine could easily sit in something far more exotic and be at home. The great thing is that its related to the V10, but doesn't have the troublesome VANOS issues from that car.

At the end of the day, for what it is, the S65 has to be right up there with one of the best engines BMW has ever produced. To me, it's lower maintenance than the S54, but feels even more special. It's a high strung, high performance engine, so some maintenance is required. It'll never pretend to be a Toyota engine.
