Good Question. To code you can use a PC (or Apple) or a smartphone.

If you use a computer, you need:
* ENet cable (OBDII connector on one end & LAN connector on other) -- you can get on eBay or Amazon
* E-Sys -- you can get on Bimmerpost or Bimmerfest
* PszdData file -- same as above
* Because BMW trimmed files, you need another program to "map" trimmed out info back into E-Sys; I know of two:
-- ProLauncher-- you can get from Tokenmaster; however, he hasn't been available of late
-- E-SysX -- available at a cost on their website

If you use a smartphone (Android or iPhone), you need:
* Either an OBDII device or ENet with USB-C to LAN adapter
* An app for your phone; I know of two: Carly or Bimmercode

I, like many others, currently use Bimmercode on my Samsung with ENet cable & adapter

Hope that helps!
