It's not sustained power or sustained amps, it has always been about stored energy. Amp hours on standard AA batteries make sense since the voktagd is generally known and all manufacturets use the same units so you can easily compare between brands.
When it comes to EV's, different manufacturers use different voltage which means you can't easily compare battery sizes based on Ah. You must compare using a unit that directly tells you max stored energy. That is commonly kWh although the SI unit is J.
