I'm not sure whether you can retrofit the entire set but I got a quote from BMW dealership for just the strip of lights on the door and that was around $700 Canadian dollars. My 330 doesn't have ambient lighting either. The parts are available but I'm not sure whether the door has the connector for the lighting. And if it does, I'm not sure how I would control it if the idrive system isn't programmed with the ambient lighting option.
But if you think about it optimistically, having no ambient lighting is sporty in a way because you don't often see sports cars with fancy interior lighting, only on luxury cars.
But if it really bothers you maybe you can install some footwell lighting which will brighten the cabin up a little bit without it looking cheap like EL cables running all around the trim
