PHEV range is key

I'm on my third PHEV and had an i3. My 2020 530e has an EV range of 22 mi and it satisfies 80% of my daily use. The EV range of the Euro-spec X5 45e is supposed to be around 40 miles and that range would do 100 % of my non-interstate trips. So, it would be the same as owning an EV, so long as I can do daily charging. I also suspect that the extra weight of the ICE drivetrain is the same, or less, than the extra weight of a 200+ mile battery.

My conclusion is that BMW's hybrid EV/PHEV/ICE platform's sweet spot is a PHEV with 40-50 mile EV range. With that, one can have an EV for local use and an ICE for interstate use in a single vehicle and is optimum until there is an improvement in charging times and availability. I see a mid-term future for ICE BMW's and NO future for EV BMW's using an adapted ICE platform.
