Indeed, it would appear that history is repeating itself. Alpina's N55 engine also features a twin-turbo setup where the stock BMW N55 is single turbo. In fact, it was reported back at the time of its release that they bought the tooling from BMW:

So, it is not at all a stretch that their B58 would also feature a twin-turbo setup. That makes a heck of a lot more sense to me than an S58. I suspect that's what is powering this new B3. Hopefully Alpina will provide confirmation soon.

It is based on the B58.
Alpina would not use an M engine, also because it has not been developed with the 8AT transmission. Twin turbo setup as for the last generation, strengthened cooling system mainly.
