Yes I felt this boaty and bloated feeling while test driving an F80 M3 years ago. I'm not a fan of cars that weigh nearly 4,000 pounds. Ended up with a OG M2. At least the M2 is smaller in length and drives smaller. |
Stepping up from a 340i and I felt the same way initially. The car felt bigger, but it was psychological. It weighed less than my 340i. I think it was due to the fact that there is a hood bulge and has a wider track. Physically yes, it's bigger, but as someone pointed out, it hides its weight well. It's hard to tell when going 45 on the street, but open it up on the track and you know where all the engineering went. The M2, which weighs the same but is smaller, handles much differently and is more fun to drive for that reason. On almost every track though, the M3/4 just has more power to turn faster laps. Tune a M2C and it's a different story.
