I'm sure hydrogen will stay a minor solution for cars. At least several new european comparisons (e.g. AGORA, Paul Scherrer Institute) show clear negative energy and CO2 summaries against BEV.
It needs much more electrical energy for the same range, infrastructure is much more expensive than BEV chargers and you need trucks for transport and a lot of water (f.e. ~7L for 60Mi for the Mirai).
It will raise most likely for certain applications like ships and maybe aircrafts, where weight is a critical aspect and supply is centralized.

Batteries will become yet better since research investments have grown exponentially the last 3-4 years.
