The fastest car I've ever driven was a 550hp AMG GT-C. That car went from 30mph -> jail before you could even say "jail." Yeah, it was a riot, and I couldn't stop laughing after every pull. But after driving that car, I feel like I shouldn't be allowed on the street with that much power unless I pass a higher level driver's exam. That thing is a 3500 lb gun, only a matter of time.

responsible use of said power is key. My X5 50i has a claimed 456HP and will do 0-60mph in 4s on a good day, 4.15s+ on an average day stock. I don't feel like it's too much power at all. They key is knowing how to handle things and driving accordingly. Sure AWD is different than RWD but the idea is the same.

Well, 456 hp in something that weighs 6000 lbs is a little different.

~5300lbw actually and I've driven an M5 Comp, M3/4 Comp never did I feel there was too much power.
